Restaurant Owners Discover How to Use the #1 Holiday in the World to Attract New Guests

11 Mar

One of my favorite things to do is ask independent restaurant owners what the most celebrated holiday in the world is and how can they cash in on it?”

First of all, it’s a loaded question, because I already know that 96% will get it wrong and then I can look like a smarty pants (since I’m a nice guy, I don’t rub it in)!

I get answers like Mother’s Day, New Years Eve, Easter, and St. Patrick’s Day (usually only the bar owners throw that one in!).  Then, I tell them they are 100% wrong.  The right answer is birthdays!

Birthdays are the most celebrated holidays in the world.  Now, I might be exaggerating a little to call birthdays “holidays”, they might be considered an “event”.  But, since I think my birthday should be considered a national holiday, I’m sure others think their birthday is a holiday too!  Best part is…  Everybody has one!

Want even MORE good news???

With over a cajillion people in the US (cajillion is retired farmer lingo for a whole lot!), there is a birthday everyday of the week, every month, all year long!  As a restaurant owner, you can benefit from the predictive frequency and increased cash flow generated by a birthday program. Plus the increased business keeps your staff sharp, keeps their pockets bulging with tips, and keeps them happy so they don’t start a mutiny over “petty little things” they would have time to focus on if they weren’t busy!

Anybody who pays attention to what I have to share can turn this nice little birthday system into a goldmine.  How?  Consider this fact: according to the National Restaurant Association, the average birthday guest celebrates their birthday with 2.8 family and friends, for a total guest count of 3.8.  Consequently, that means you have a lot of “four-toppers” coming through your door!!

Isn’t that what you want??

Best of all, they’re out to celebrate and have a good time… pinching pennies is not their top priority!  Your servers can “up sell” all day long!  After all… their birthday is only once a year and they should splurge, right?!  Having tables with that “splurge” mentality every single night, week after week, makes the birthday program a No Brainer! Have a Great Marketing Day!

Seems like a no-brainer doesn’t? But no, so many business owners do not see the opportunity here.

I’ve been to restaurants before, mentioned that someone in my party is having a birthday and have been greeted with disinterest!

The restaurant does not have to give much, even a free drink goes a long way to ensuring the whole table spends more and returns.
