FACT: The Number One Required Marketing Strategy For All Restaurants Should Be To Replace Lost Guests

So What Are Most Restaurants Doing To Find New Guests and Replace Lost Ones?

There are many tools, strategies and new technologies to acquire “New” guests. Let’s look over the most common and see how they will fit your needs.

1. Referrals or Word of Mouth

This is absolutely the cheapest and the best quality of New Guest you can acquire. This method is usually outstanding! My company loves referrals and we even reward everyone that send guests our way (we give them just a little ethical bribe… this month it’s a ½ gallon of mini chocolate chip cookies, two months from now it will be something different… maybe steaks!). However, relying on word of mouth will not likely replace all of your lost guests and grow your business.

2. Traditional Advertising

There are many different types of mass media such as paper, televisi8on, radio, Val-Pak mailings, billboards, yellow pages, magazines, etc. These listed are very expensive and usually no-measurable. (It’s extremely hard to figure out your ROI and say it cost you $5 or $20 to get guests in the door if you can’t measure your ad!). However, more about that later.

What is the role of traditional advertising?

The role of traditional advertising should only be meant for new guest acquisition. It shouldn’t be used to inform your existing guests of sales or special announcements. The reason being is that mass advertising is just way too darn expensive! If you’re using mass media for advertising, such as radio, TV, etc., then you’re pouring money down the rabbit hole. It’s not cost effective for you!

So what is the best way to contact your existing guests and even get new guests?
