Big Dumb Companies Only React

When Circumstances Cause Them To!

Have You become trapped into other people causing you to react to their requests?

Let me indulge myself and talk to you about my father who was a stoop crop farmer (vegetables, approximately 300 acres, all harvested by “stooping” over and picking the old fashioned way).  Way back in the 60s, 300 acres was BIG.  Anyway, he always had this saying “Cause and Effect”.  You know if you cause something to happen it always has an effect… on EVERYTHING!  My dad wanted to always be the cause, trying to never allow some outside source dictate what he had to be doing.  He was the first farmer in Michigan to ice his sweet corn, thus keeping sugar content high.  For 20¢ of ice, he received $1.00 more per 5 dozen (or a bag of corn).  He was the first Independent Farmer in Michigan to brand all his produce, the Ring Neck Brand.  Thus HE created demand by Kroger Stores, not the main office.  He worked from the ground up selling the stores on his freshness, and they began demanding his produce.  He also farmed in Florida and was the first man to successfully grow cauliflower commercially in that state.  Everyone said it couldn’t be done, but he found a way!

Why Am I Telling You This???

Because everyone should be aware of “Cause and Effect”.  Recently I’ve been doing some writing for a client, charging him a fair amount of money for copywriting (not outrageous, but fair).  Last Friday, he needed something done by Monday…  I dropped everything and started writing.  Even though I made 5 figures for a one page sales letter, it caused me to postpone my book chapter I was working on by one whole day and part of Monday.  His note to me after we finished was “It looks OK”…  Point I’m trying to justify… “Cause and Effect”.  Was it worth the money versus the time lost on my own business?  Answer… NO!  However, a new valued system has been created out of that effect.  Everyone needs to evaluate “Cause and Effect”… is it worth the price you have to pay???  You should always be the CAUSE!
